How to use Wordle Helper

Step 1 – Enter your guessed letters

Type each letter from your Wordle guess into the boxes. Add a row for each guess you've made so far. You can add up to 6 rows, matching the 6 attempts Wordle gives you.

Step 2 – Set the tile colors

Once you've typed a letter, tap it to cycle through the colours: gray (not in word), green (correct position), or yellow (wrong position). Each tap moves to the next colour. Match the colours exactly as they appear in your Wordle game.

Step 3 – Find your answer

Hit "Find Possible Words" and we'll show you every valid remaining word, ranked by the best next guess using letter frequency analysis. The green-highlighted words at the top are statistically your best next guesses — they eliminate the most possibilities regardless of the result.

What is Wordle?

Wordle is a daily word game where players get 6 attempts to guess a secret 5-letter word. Each guess reveals which letters are correct (green), present but misplaced (yellow), or absent (gray). It was created by software engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, went viral in late 2021, and was acquired by The New York Times in early 2022. Today, millions of people play it daily worldwide.

How does the solver algorithm work?

Our solver filters the complete Wordle word list using the constraints you've provided — eliminating any word that contradicts your green, yellow, or gray tiles. The remaining words are then ranked by letter frequency: words that use the most common letters across all remaining possibilities score highest. This approach mirrors the strategy used by top Wordle players and minimises the expected number of guesses to find the answer.

Does using a Wordle helper count as cheating?

That's entirely up to you — Wordle has no enforcement mechanism. Most players use helpers when they're genuinely stuck rather than right from the start. Think of it like using a dictionary: perfectly valid, and it helps you learn new words in the process. Many players find that reviewing the possible words their solver suggests actually teaches them vocabulary they later remember for future games.

What's the best Wordle starting word?

By letter frequency analysis, CRANE and SLATE are consistently the top-ranked openers. Both cover five high-frequency letters with no repeats — giving you maximum information from a single guess. See our full starting words guide for a detailed breakdown of the top 5 options and why each works.

Why does the solver sometimes show words I don't recognise?

Our word list is based on the standard Wordle answer set plus an extended dictionary of valid guesses. Some words are valid English but uncommon — Wordle itself occasionally uses words that surprise even experienced players. If a suggestion looks unfamiliar, it's still a legitimate word that matches your constraints.

Can I use this for NYT Wordle, Quordle, or other variants?

Yes. Our solver works for any game based on the standard 5-letter Wordle format, including the NYT's daily Wordle. For Quordle and other multi-board variants, you'll need to run the solver separately for each board — just enter the guesses and results for one board at a time.
